Baseball has lost much of its appeal to many Black Americans, as well as its share of African American players. In 1981, over 18% of MLB players were Black. This year, 30% of the players identify as Latino and many of whom identity as Afro Latino, but only 7% are African American.
Dr. Daniel Kelly, academic director of graduate programs at Preston Robert Tisch Institute for Global Sports at NYU, joins Charles Blow on “Prime” to discuss why the percentage of African Americans in baseball has decreased.
