In New York, like other major cities, there’s a transit inequality. Subway stops and parking garages are more likely to be in wealthy and predominantly white neighborhoods. According to the National Equality Atmos, Black households are least likely to have a vehicle and live in a “transit desert.” As it relates to communities of color, Humphrey believes “we’re really going to need to focus on the passenger economy and how we will get around in the future.” It’s going to look a lot different than everyone just hopping in their cars, she says.
