Garvey, founder of the Universal Negro Improvement Association, encouraged pride among African Americans and those throughout the African diaspora.
When the worldwide activist caught the attention of the FBI, he became a target. The FBI sent their first Black undercover agent to spy on Garvey. In 1923, the Pan-African leader was convicted of mail fraud.
Dr. Greg Carr, associate professor of Africana studies at Howard University, joins Marc Lamont Hill on “Black News Tonight” to discuss this story.
