Dec 8, 20211:16Now PlayingOne of college football’s most storied and prestigious program, Notre Dame’s Fighting Irish, officially introduced defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman as its new head coach.
He becomes only the second Black head coach to lead the Fighting Irish in the program’s history.
Freeman replaces Notre Dame’s all-time winningest coach Brian Kelly, who accepted a 10-year $95 million deal to coach LSU.
His first big test as head coach will be on New Year’s Day as the 11-1 Fighting Irish face the Oklahoma State Cowboys in the Fiesta Bowl.
Freeman’s hiring represents progress and possibly a shift in the college landscape for Black coaches.
