8:26Now PlayingPresident Joe Biden has reportedly tapped his long-time friend and ally, former Alabama Sen. Doug Jones, to help with the process of choosing a Black woman to replace Justice Stephen Breyer on the Supreme Court.
Jones will be an ally inside the Senate, escorting the Black female nominee to meetings with senators and prepping her for the hearings.
Black voters, especially Black women, are how Jones got his Senate seat. An NBC News exit poll in 2017 found that “96% of Black voters supported Jones, with 98% of Black women and 93% of Black men backing him.”
Dr. Avis Jones DeWeever, former executive director for the National Council of Negro Women, and Melanie Campbell, president/CEO, National Coalition on Black Civic Participation, joins guest host Nayyera Haq on “Prime” to discuss.
