The word anesthetized in its root means “numb to beauty.” When we shut down our hearts fearing pain, we often become numb to the beauty and truth surrounding us. This is what Jesus called “hardness of heart.”
In order to form an authentically Catholic world view, we must come to see the world sacramentally. The principle of sacramentality – which is the principle of the incarnation and the thesis statement of the whole Theology of the Body – is that the material world reveals the spiritual. Matter matters because God has revealed himself through it.
The authentic Catholic world view is, itself sacramentality. It sees the whole world through the lens of the Incarnation – through the lens of God made man.
