Belligerent Woman WRECKS Tesla before DWI Arrest

Around 9:58 PM on April 21, 2023, Sergeant Edward Ring with the Edgewater Police Department responded to the scene of a motor vehicle accident involving a Tesla on River Road southbound. He was the first to arrive on scene, and he observed a 2022 Tesla Model Y with severe damages and airbag deployment. He proceeded to make contact with the driver, who was later identified as Priscilla. As he moved the airbags and asked Priscilla to exit the vehicle, he detected the odor of alcohol. Sergeant Ring attempted to speak to her multiple times, but Priscilla became uncooperative and asked for a lawyer.

Patrolman Michael Colon arrived on scene to assist shortly afterwards. EMTs also arrived on scene to evaluate Priscilla, but she declined further medical attention. Another person on scene told the officers that Priscilla had consumed alcohol before she operated a motor vehicle. Since Priscilla was uncooperative and belligerent, Sergeant Ring decided to not administer standardized field sobriety tests.

Based on the car accident, her indicators of impairment, and her overall uncooperativeness, Sergeant Ring placed Priscilla under arrest for driving under the influence. Priscilla was transported by Sergeant Ring to the Edgewater Police Department for initial processing. She was read the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators, and she agreed to provide breath samples. However, she did invoke her Miranda rights and refused to answer questions. The officers transported Priscilla to the Fairview Police Department to administer the breathalyzer test because their machine was not functional.

Priscilla’s Alcotest results indicated a BAC of 0.11%, which was over the legal limit of 0.08%. After Priscilla took the breathalyzer test at the Fairview Police Department, she was eventually released to her brother pending her first court appearance after he signed the Potential Liability Warning form on Priscilla’s behalf. Sergeant Ring issued Priscilla the following summonses: Operating under the influence and careless driving.

Super. 13, the Appellate Division of the Superior Court has also affirmed the right to film law enforcement interactions.
