35:07Now PlayingAround 12:21 AM on September 1, 2023, Officer Robichaud with the Colonie Police Department observed a vehicle drive through a red light on Central Avenue. As he pursued the vehicle, he noticed that the driver was going below the speed limit and driving erratically. He initiated a traffic stop, and the driver pulled over on Lanci Lane. The officer made contact with the driver, who was identified as 26-year-old Katelynn.
Katelynn told the officer that she was headed over to her boyfriend’s house nearby. He asked her if she had consumed any alcohol, but she initially denied it. He asked Katelynn to recite the alphabet from “E” to “P” and count backwards, but she seemed unable to follow his instructions. The officer returned to his patrol car to run her information and call for backup. Within a few minutes, 2 additional officers arrived to assist.
Based upon his suspicion of impairment, Katelynn was asked to perform field sobriety exercises. Officer Robichaud started with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. The second exercise was the Walk and Turn test and the final exercise was the One Leg Stand test. After the field sobriety exercises, Katelynn was asked to take a portable breathalyzer test, which indicated that there was alcohol in her system.
Based on her erratic driving, the odor of alcohol in the vehicle, her admission to consuming alcohol, her inability to adequately complete the field sobriety exercises, and the results of the portable breathalyzer test, Officer Robichaud placed Katelynn under arrest for driving under the influence. Katelynn was transported to the Colonie Police Department for further processing. At the station, she agreed to submit breath samples for testing, and her breath samples indicated a BAC of 0.13%. Once the officers were finished with processing her, Katelynn was released pending her court appearance on September 18, 2023. Officer Robichaud issued Katelynn the following summonses: Operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated 1st offense, operating a motor vehicle with .08 of 1% of alcohol-1st, passing a red light, and failure to keep right-2 lane road
