Woman with an Attitude Arrested for DWI After Fiancé Snitches on Her

Around 1:02 AM on September 17, 2023, Officer Marcus Roundtree with the Franklin Township Police Department responded to a motor vehicle accident in the vicinity of Easton Avenue and DeMott Lane involving a 2022 Hyundai Genesis with severe tire damage. As he arrived on scene, it was apparent that the front passenger tire and axel were severely damaged. He made contact with the driver, who was identified as 28-year-old Tyasia. Tyasia could not seem to recall how this accident happened.

Officer Roundtree detected the odor of alcohol and noticed that Tyasia’s speech was slurred, along with other indicators of impairment. She denied consuming alcohol, but she her fiancé would later inform him that she did consume alcohol earlier that evening. Based on his suspicion of impairment, Officer Roundtree eventually called for another officer to come to the scene and administer field sobriety exercises.

Officer James arrived on scene around 1:37 AM and asked Tyasia to perform field sobriety exercises. The first exercise involved the Walk and Turn test. During the Walk and Turn test, Tyasia failed to touch heel-to-toe on each step and turned improperly. The final exercise was the One Leg Stand test, and Tyasia failed to raise her foot in the proper fashion, displayed a lack of balance, and did not count as instructed.

Based on the motor vehicle accident, the odor of alcohol, her fiancé’s account of her consuming alcohol earlier that evening, and her inability to adequately complete the field sobriety exercises, Officer James placed Tyasia under arrest for driving under the influence. The vehicle was towed by Anthony Motors and impounded for a mandatory 12-hour hold under John’s Law. Officer Roundtree transported Tyasia to the Franklin Township Police Department for further processing.

At police HQ, Tyasia was read the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators by Officer Ellington, and she agreed to submit breath samples for testing. Her Alcotest results indicated a BAC of 0.14%. She was asked where she had her last alcoholic beverage, but she refused to provide an answer.

Tyasia was eventually released to her fiancé pending her court appearance after he signed the Potential Liability Warning Form on her behalf. She was issued the following summonses: Operating under the influence and reckless driving
