37:43Now PlayingAround 1:55 AM on December 14, 2023, Officer Baar with the Tampa Police Department observed a black Mercedes being driven at 86 MPH in a 55 MPH zone on Interstate 275. He activated his lights to initiate a traffic stop, and the driver pulled over on N Florida Avenue under the Interstate 275 overpass. Officer Baar notified dispatch regarding the traffic stop and made contact with the driver, who was identified as 24-year-old Hayley.
As Officer Baar was speaking with her, he observed indicators of impairment. Hayley told Officer Baar that she was headed home after working as a bartender at MacDinton’s Irish Pub. When he asked her if she had anything to drink, she admitted to consuming alcohol before operating a motor vehicle. Based on his suspicion of impairment, Officer Baar asked Hayley to exit the vehicle and perform field sobriety exercises.
Officer Baar started with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. The second exercise was the Walk and Turn test. During the Walk and Turn test, Hayley did not touch heel-to-toe on each step, turned improperly, and took an incorrect number of steps. The third exercise was the One Leg Stand test, and Hayley failed to raise her foot in the proper fashion and used her arms for balance.
Based on her traffic infraction, her indicators of impairment, her admission to consuming alcohol, and her inability to adequately perform the field sobriety exercises, Hayley was placed under arrest for driving under the influence. After Hayley was placed in the car, she was transported by Officer Baar to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office for further processing and charged with a DUI.
