Psycho Homeless Man Arrested Outside Madd Hatter Bar in Hoboken, NJ

Around 1:00 AM on July 10, 2025, Sergeant Daniel Grossi with the Hoboken Police Department was flagged down by a security guard at the Madd Hatter bar on 221 Washington Street. He was informed that a man was trying to get into the bar despite being denied entry. Officers Jaydan Gonzalez and Donovan Ortiz subsequently arrived on scene to assist. The man initially claimed to not have any identification, but he was eventually identified as Roberto Cancel. He told the officers that he had been staying at a shelter in the Bronx.

A search of his records indicated that he had multiple outstanding warrants for his arrest, including warrants from Bayonne and Highlands. Around this time, he was informed that he was being placed under arrest. A search of his belongings incident to arrest indicated that he was in possession of prohibited items. The officers transported him to the Hoboken Police Department for further processing. At the station, he refused to be fingerprinted. Roberto was charged with disorderly conduct under possession (2C:36-2A) and refusal to submit to fingerprinting (53:1-15) and ultimately transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

Super. 13, the Appellate Division of the Superior Court has also affirmed the right to film law enforcement interactions.
