Drunk Woman Kills a Motorcyclist and Flees

On April 1, 2026 at approximately 8:52 PM, officers with the St. Charles Police Department were dispatched to the intersection of Route 25 and Country Club Road on a report of a motor vehicle accident. TriCom advised officers that the driver of a white Jeep was attempting to leave the scene, and the driver had already fled before officers arrived on scene. A witness advised Officer Redmann that a white Jeep struck a motorcyclist, later identified as 27-year-old Ryan Hresil.

Officer Redmann eventually located the driver of the white 2008 Jeep Wrangler after she called and advised that she was stuck in a ditch on the road. It appeared that the Jeep had run over a metal chain link fence and driven onto the cart path of the golf course. After climbing down the path, Officer Redmann made contact with the driver, who was later identified as 28-year-old Morgan Claire Mroz.

Morgan claimed that she was sideswiped by another vehicle while she was turning and that she had the right of way. When he asked her where she was coming from, she initially claimed that she was coming from her friend’s place on South Elgin. As Officer Redmann was speaking with her, he detected the odor of alcohol and observed other indicators of impairment. Based on his suspicion of impairment, Officer Redmann asked Morgan to perform field sobriety exercises. However, Morgan refused to perform any field sobriety exercises.

After she refused to perform field sobriety exercises, Officer Redmann placed her under arrest for driving under the influence. A search of her vehicle incident to arrest yielded a tumbler with a minimal amount of liquid that had an odor of an alcoholic beverage. Morgan was transported by Officer Hohman to the St. Charles Police Department for further processing. She refused to submit breath samples at the station, so she was transported to Delnor Hospital for a blood draw. Officer Witt obtained a warrant for a blood draw, she was served with the warrant at the hospital.

After the blood draw, Morgan was transported back to the St. Charles Police Department. Morgan was eventually booked into the Kane County Jail, and the judge later ordered her held. The blood test results would eventually indicate a BAC level of 0.13%, which was above the legal limit of 0.08%. As of April 18, 2026, Morgan is still in jail awaiting her next court hearing.

-Homicide: Reckless Homicide (720 ILCS 5/9-3)

-DUI - BAC .08 or more - 1st offense (625 ILCS 5/11-501(a)(1))

-DUI - Alcohol – 1st or 2nd offense (625 ILCS 5/11-501(a)(2))

-Possession of a controlled substance (720 ILCS 570/402(c))

-Leaving the scene of an accident (625 ILCS 5/11-401(b))

-Intersection: Right of Way Violation (625 ILCS 5/11-901)

-Operating an uninsured motor vehicle (625 ILCS 5/3-707)

-Operating a vehicle with an expired registration (625 ILCS 5/3-413(f))

-Illegal transportation of alcohol (625 ILCS 5/11-502(a))
