Drunk Mom With a PBA Card Drives her 7-Year-Old Son

Around 7:50 PM on May 31, 2026, Patrolman Matthew Golembieski with the Monmouth Beach Police Department observed a red 2018 Honda Accord disregard the stop signs at 2 different intersections. He eventually activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop, and the driver pulled over in the area of Patten Avenue and Anchors Way. He exited his patrol car and made contact with the driver, who was identified as Kaitlin Hogan.

As he was speaking with Kaitlin, he detected the odor of alcohol and observed other indicators of impairment. Kaitlin told the officer that she was coming from the marina. Her 7-year-old son was in the backseat of the vehicle. She presented the officer with a PBA card and denied drinking anything earlier that evening, but she would later admit to having 1 Twisted Tea. Based on his suspicion of impairment, Kaitlin was eventually asked to exit the vehicle and perform field sobriety exercises. Her poor performance on the field sobriety exercises confirmed his suspicions of impairment.

Based on her traffic violations, the odor of alcohol, and her inability to satisfactorily complete the field sobriety exercises, Kaitlin was placed under arrest for DWI. Her vehicle was impounded for a 12-hour hold according to John’s Law, while Patrolman Golembieski transported Kaitlin to the Monmouth Beach Police Department for further processing.

At the station, the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators was read to her, and she agreed to submit breath samples. Her Alcotest results indicated a BAC level of 0.089%, which was above the legal limit of 0.08%. After they finished processing Kaitlin, she was released to her mother Kathryne Phillips pending her court appearance after she signed the Potential Liability Warning on Kaitlin’s behalf.

Patrolman Golembieski issued Kaitlin the following traffic tickets:

-Operating under the influence (39:4-50)

-Reckless driving (39:4-96)

-Careless driving (39:4-97)

-Disregarding a stop sign (39:4-144) – 2 tickets

-Failure to signal before right turn (39:4-126(B))

She was also criminally charged with endangering a child (2C:24-4A(2))

As of July 23, 2026, Kaitlin’s case is still pending before the court.
