Married Teacher Arrested After Having Sex With a 16-Year-Old

On May 9, 2026 at approximately 11:30 PM, the Whitman County Sheriff’s Office was advised of an alleged sex offense involving 25-year-old Mackenzie Naught, a first grade teacher in the community. The caller was her husband Garrett Naught, and he claimed that he saw screenshots on his wife’s phone showing her communicating inappropriately with a 16-year-old male. The male had confirmed that he had slept with Mackenzie during a phone conversation with Garrett. After he received confirmation of his wife’s actions, Garrett decided to call the police.

Around 12:55 AM on May 10, 2026, Deputy Amy Griffiths and Deputy Zane Casper with the Whitman County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the residence of Mackenzie Naught. They first made contact with her husband Garrett, who elaborated further on why he suspected that his wife was involved in an improper relationship with a 16-year-old male. The male had admitted to Garrett over a voice call as well as on Snapchat that he had slept with his wife Mackenzie. When the Deputies asked where she worked, they were told that she was a first grade teacher in the St. John School District.

When Mackenzie was first questioned by Deputy Casper outside, she claimed that there was a lot of mutual infidelity within their relationship and that alcohol was often involved. Mackenzie initially admitted that they had been flirtatious towards each other and even suggested that there were rumors about the 16-year-old having an improper relationship with another teacher at the school. However, she did not directly admit that they had sex.

Deputy Griffiths then interviewed Tami McBride, who had come to the residence as a guest. Tami told Deputy Griffiths that she was inside another room trying to sleep when she heard an argument between Mackenzie and Garrett. Mackenzie then asked to borrow Tami’s phone and used it to call the 16-year-old male. She admitted to Tami that she had slept with the 16-year-old male. When Garrett was about to call the police, Mackenzie allegedly tried to take the phone from Garrett in an attempt to stop him from calling the police.

Later that day around 9:00 PM, Deputy Griffiths met with the 16-year-old male at the Sheriff’s Office and conducted a forensic interview. During the interview, the male admitted that on May 3, 2026, he picked up Mackenzie down the street from her house in his pickup truck and drove to Harwood Hill. This is a common hang out spot for high schoolers just outside of St. John off Pine City Malden Road.

While he was in the driver seat and Mackenzie was in the passenger seat of the truck, he claimed that Mackenzie climbed across the center console and climbed on top of him “trying to ride him.” Then they moved over to the bed of his pickup truck and that Mackenzie lay on her back on the tail gate of the truck. At that time, they had sex. After they had sex, he stated that he drove Mackenzie back home and dropped her off near her house. His live 365 movements indicated that he picked up Mackenzie at 2:13 AM, got to Harwood Hill at 2:19 AM, stayed there until 3:53 AM, and dropped off Mackenzie at 3:59 AM.

Then at 10:19 PM, Deputy Griffiths interviewed Mackenzie after she waived her Miranda rights. Mackenzie admitted that the male picked her up, drove them to a nearby road, and they talked for a long time. She admitted that they had sex in the back of the truck and that he drove her back home afterwards.

On the day after the incident, Mackenzie texted him asking him not to tell anyone else about what happened. Mackenzie claimed that she knew him from community events. While she did not have him in any of her classes, she admitted that the relationship was inappropriate because she might have an interaction with him if she were to chaperone another school event.

Mackenzie was charged with sexual misconduct with a minor in the first degree (RCW 9A.44.093). As of August 10, 2026, Mackenzie remains lodged in the Whitman County Jail awaiting her sentencing hearing.
