Amy Harnishfeger worked for the national guard, collecting information for veterans about various support services. In a former career, she also worked as a sex phone operator, and self-published a book about her time doing so called "Conversations with Monsters: 5 Chilling, Depraved, and Deviant Phone Sex Conversations."
When Amy friended her supervisor on facebook (never a good move; pro tip, do not do this!), her employer found out about her former work, and fired her on that basis. Because her employer is a government actor, the first amendment is implicated.
Today, we learn more about when a government employer can fire a person for speech and when they can't. and also learn more then we probably wanted to know about what some people are calling phone sex workers to fantasize about.
We also debate whether it is more fun if I know how to pronounce names or not ....
