13:37Now PlayingIn his opening remarks at Thursday's hearing over a sexual assault allegation against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Sen. Chuck Grassley said "I lament how this hearing has come about."
The Iowa senator said the Democrats have refused to help move the committee's investigation into Christine Blasey Ford's allegation against Kavanaugh forward in a meaningful way.
Grassley delivered his opening remarks in front of Ford at the start of the hearing. The panel is comprised of 11 Republicans and 10 Democrats. Each senator will have five minutes to question both Ford and Kavanaugh separately.
