Tim Morrison, a former White House official who served on the National Security Council, told House lawmakers on Nov. 19 that he does not know the identity of the whistleblower and urged the committee to not "lose sight" of the larger conflict happening in Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression. "I feared at the time of the call on July 25 how its disclosure would play in Washington's political climate. My fears have been realized," he told the committee. "I understand the gravity of these proceedings, but I beg you to not lose sight of the military conflict underway in eastern Ukraine today." The impeachment inquiry has focused on a July 25 phone call in which Trump asked the president of Ukraine to investigate former vice president and 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son, Hunter.
