During the planned six hours of debate ahead of the House impeachment vote on Dec. 18, Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Fla, called the impeachment inquiry a "political vendetta." "Just because the president's opponents are afraid that he'll win re-election is no excuse for weaponizing impeachment," he said. President Donald Trump was charged with two articles of impeachment--abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. If passed, the process will then head for a trial in the Senate, where Republicans have a majority. Earlier in the day, the House voted to approve rules for the vote.
