During the planned six hours of debate ahead of the House impeachment vote, Rep. Chris Stewart, R-Utah, said Democrats have been trying to impeach President Donald Trump before he was even sworn into the office. "It turns out that some people don't like President Trump ... and to their sensitive natures, they've been offended," he said. But, Stewart added that the impeachment vote isn't about Ukraine or abuse of power or other details in the ongoing inquiry. "This vote, this day is about one day and one thing only: They hate this president," Stewart said, adding that Democrats think 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton should be president. "They want to take away my vote and throw it in the trash. They want to away my president and de-legitimize him so he cannot be re-elected," he said. After his remarks, Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., responded by saying that if Trump is impeached, Mike Pence would become president, not Clinton. Trump has been charged with two articles of impeachment--abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. If passed, the process will then head for a trial in the Senate, where Republicans have a majority. Earlier in the day, the House voted to approve rules for the vote.
