Sen. JD Vance attacked economic experts who have criticized former President Donald Trump’s plans, saying during the vice presidential debate with Gov. Tim Walz on Tuesday that Trump's record proves his efficacy.

“A lot of those same economists attacked Donald Trump's plans, and they have PhDs, but they don't have common sense and they don't have wisdom,” Vance said.

“When people say that Donald Trump's economic plan doesn't make sense, I say look at the record. He delivered rising take home pay for American workers.”

Vance defended Trump’s 2017 tax legislation, claiming it led to an “economic boom unlike we’ve seen in a generation in this country.”

Vance and Walz are facing each other in their first, and possibly last, vice presidential debate, hosted by CBS in New York on Oct. 1.

Both are relatively unknown to the broader American public. Walz was a U.S. House member before becoming governor of Minnesota. Vance is in his first term as a senator from Ohio.
