Laquan McDonald Proves That Black Lives Don't Matter

Laquan McDonald was shot 16 times and killed by Chicago police in October of 2014. A brief backstory is that he was high on drugs (PCP), wielding a knife, and was attempting to break into cars at a lot. The police were called on him because of his behavior. When the police get there, he evades arrest, slashes police tires with the knife he was wielding. He then trots out into the center of the actual street, where he begins to walk forward, not necessarily in the direction of the police. At this point, he is still holding the knife, and is then shot 16 times within a matter of seconds by one police officer.

This case has been going on for a while behind the scenes. From the information I've gathered, the family received a $5 million dollar settlement long before any dash-cam video of the incident was released. The family, of course, was against the video being released, as that may have been part of the settlement. To not go to the media in order to keep peace in the street. But somehow, the dash-cam video of the incident has been released. Right before the tape hit the media, the cop in question has been charged with murder.

But somehow, the evidence of the incident and the cop being charged with murder was not enough for some citizens of Chicago (and other obvious external agent provocateurs.) The release of the footage has caused widespread "protests" and riots throughout Downtown Chicago. This is a very confusing thing to me. What is the purpose of rioting and protesting, AFTER what those same people may see as justice has been served? Why riot and protest after the family of the fallen says they don't want you to?

Because there is too much money at stake. Media outlets who cover this nonsensical violence get plenty of airplay and chances to shove advertisements down our throat at an increased rate. I've been seeing these types of stories on Facebook as "promoted posts" more than I've seen other "promoted posts." That means, someone behind these major media outlet's social media accounts has seen the value of PAYING for individual posts to get more attention, because they know the ROI (return on investment) will be high! You also have the career rabble rousers who want to get their two seconds of shine. You have your lawless feral dogs who want to go cause havoc and steal. You have your fake civil rights leaders like DeRay McKesson and the trans-racial Shaun King, who want to propel themselves into the spotlight. I'm all for the American way of capitalism and taking advantage of a great career opportunity, but sometimes it gets vile and ridiculous.

My take on it is obviously what's going on, because where was all of this anger and uprising during the full year since Laquan McDonald was killed? Where was all of this when Tyshawn Lee, a 9 year old boy, was shot and killed after being stalked by adult gang members, on November the 2nd of this year? It seems like nobody cares about the very serious scourge of black on black crime, that takes lives at a higher rate than any other intra-racial crime in the United States. Nobody cares about black lives being taken at all unless a white man and/or police officer is involved! Which is what you have here. Sad story but nothing different than the norm.
