Now They Want To Remove A Captain Cook Statue in Australia (REACTION)

A statue of Captain James Cook in Hyde Park, Sydney, Australia is now being threatened with removal or at least “revision” when it comes to the placard on the front of it which says “Discovered This Territory 1770.” This notion is not a new thing but it has gained much more steam and attention after the events in Charlottesville, Virginia that ended in tragedy which started with a simple protest over the removal of a Robert E. Lee statue. Feelings of racism and memories of slavery were the chief reasons why the statue was to be removed. Some people came to protest the removal of it because it would be eliminating history, or at least changing what actually happened during history.

Some would say that the removal of Captain Cook’s statue would not revise history at all because after all, there are still books. Well, the truth of the matter is that it’s easier to burn (or discontinue, in modern terms) books but it’s much more difficult to remove a statue. The statement “Discovered this Territory 1770” is a truthful statement which is literally written in stone. If that statement were to change on the statue, surely it would be reflected in books, if not already so. At that point, history has been successfully revised. These tactics are not anything new.

Joseph Stalin and Mao Zedong both did it as part of communism. And everyone knows how the story of communism always ends. Well… some people do. And other people who do not know how the story of communism always ends may be victim of the history revision that those who oppose the removal of historical figures continue to rail against. Captain Cook did discover the Australian landmass and the first fleet who came after him set the plan in motion to create the Australia that exists today. Yes, there were people on the continent already, but to say that it would be the same country that it is today is simply not true. Keep history in place and don’t become like harmful regimes in the past who wish to try and edit the past.
