YouTube Description
as posted by the channelMinimum wage has increased in 20 state; 24 counties and cities across the United States. Some saw wage hikes as part of adjustment for inflation which were as little as a 5 cent increase while others were as much as $2 in an effort to eventually reach $15 per hour. New York City has reached the $15 per hour mark, although the rest of the state has a lower minimum wage. Other states have cities with higher minimum wages than the rest of the state as well, such as Portland vs the rest of Oregon vs rural Oregon.
Several media outlets have praised these minimum wage increases as great things that will lift people out of poverty by increasing their paychecks. The reality is much different, however. For the simple fact that hourly wages are paid … hourly. If a restaurant is forced to pay $10/hour minimum rather than $8, they may take cost-cutting measures to avoid paying more for the same labor. Cutting hours is the first method. Which could have many employees making the same as or less than before even with a much higher per-hour wage.
