8:30Now PlayingCNN legal analyst Areva Martin appeared on a Sirius XM Radio show hosted by David Webb on which she accused Webb of having “white privilege.” Both David Webb and Areva Martin are black (apparently it was a phone interview). For more context, there was a conversation around Webb’s rise in the world of journalism. He stated that his color was not a factor in his eyes, rather his skill and expertise were.
Martin then said he was privy to certain privileges “people of color” are not and that he had the benefit of “white privilege.” Webb then asked her how is that possible, she said because he is a white male. Of course, Webb then explained to her that he is, in fact, a black male. Martin was apologetic but the damage had been done. Why weaponize someone’s race? It seems to be an easy and accepted cop-out whenever a person is feeling the pressure of a losing argument in which race may or may not be a factor.
