Ron DeSantis Suspends Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel For Incompetence… FINALLY!

Newly-elected Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has suspended Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel due to general incompetence. He cited two major cases upon which his decision stands - the 2017 Fort Lauderdale Airport shooting and also the Marjorie Stoneman Douglass High School Shooting in Parkland.

The airport incident suffered from a substandard radio system which caused a lack of communication. That same system was an issue in Parkland. Many other issues plagued Parkland such as the shooter, Nikolas Cruz being flagged repeatedly before the incident with no action and also school resource officer Scot Peterson refusing to engage the shooter. Prior to Parkland, Israel changed the active shooter protocol from “shall” engage to “may” engage.

Scott Israel defended himself during a press conference by saying that DeSantis never spoke to him or his department before the decision to suspend him was made and also that the suspension was simply the fulfillment of a campaign promise.
