A film about the biggest domestic upheaval of the century, and the conflict between people and local authorities, resulting from the corporation rehousing programmes which are changing almost every city in Britain.

Tonight's film follows step by well-intentioned step the process that has demolished a life-style and, in the best of faith, lumbered people with the kind of home that nobody asked for and few seem to flourish in. (Original Billing)

UPDATE: In 1974, just two years after opening, Manchester City Council deemed the Hulme Crescents unsuitable for families. By 1984 the unsafe living conditions made the buildings so undesirable that the council stopped charging rents entirely. Between 1992 and 1995 Hulme Crescents were completely demolished.
