5:00Now Playing"It didn't exist before 1970 - Quavers were the prototype, neither crisp nor peanut."
Henry Kelly and Susan Grossman explore the burgeoning market for the "Concept Snack" - shaped corn or potato snacks with gaudy packaging. You'll likely know at least one example; Quavers, Horror Bags, Fighter Planes, Bermuda Triangles, Kung Fueys, Rancheros, Rock'n Rollers, Chinese Take Aways, Atom Smashers, Whale Bones, Aquanauts and Monster Munch.
The marketing people's latest gimmick is science fiction, with Alien Spacers - doubtless designed to cash in on the success of the Star Wars and E.T. movies - which KP are backing with expensive looking television advertisements.
To find out more about the new packaged snack paradigm, Henry talks to Trevor Davies, the senior marketing manager of KP.
