Speaking on BBC Radio 4's Today programme, the health secretary said: "the NHS is improving, and the NHS is still not good enough, both of those things are true".
When asked by Nick Robinson what he meant by “drain the swamp” in the NHS, Streeting said there is a distinction between “the service and the people who are working in it”.
Pushed on whether his phrase means people are being sacked, he said there have been firings but it was not in the news because he is “not in the business of humiliating people”.
