Birds are getting divorced, specifically albatrosses. Although the seabirds are known for their monogamous partnerships, they have recently been abandoning their companions.
Over the course of 15 years, a group of 15,500 birds was investigated. The divorce rate increased from 3.7 percent to 7.7 percent over that time period. The main explanation for the increase is that many of the couples were unable to produce chicks.
Scientists worry that with the rising temperature of ocean water, we might see more divorces in the future. The rising temperature has led to fertility issues among the birds. The trend is a bleak forecast for the future of seabirds.
