There's currently a bill in France to force influencers to disclose any manipulation of their social media images. The proposal is meant to protect people, especially women, from unrealistic beauty standards.
Honestly, as a millennial, I don't think I've ever seen an image in a magazine that hasn't been altered in some way. So, why should social media be any different? Or maybe you agree with the French proposal that the fakery is causing a self-esteem crisis. And, let's face it; if you've ever seen an influencer taking pictures, they take like a million of them and then apply many effects to them to make it look good.
The bottom line? Most of the pictures of ourselves are bad. We look heavier, greasier and often don't even look like ourselves. So, if you see a stunning photo of your favorite influencer, don't compare your spur-of-the-moment vacation photo to it; there's simply no comparison. And often, influencer mugs don't bear any resemblance to reality.
