2:06Now PlayingAttorney General Todd Blanche on Thursday announced the federal indictment of 81 alleged members of a violent Puerto Rican drug trafficking gang.
The Justice Department said the alleged members of the gang, known as "Los Baja Deo," were charged with the illegal possession and distribution of cocaine, fentanyl, heroine and other illegal drugs.
"This generated an estimated $49 million in proceeds for this drug trafficking organization," Mr. Blanche told reporters at a briefing in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The group also used "violence as a means of conducting business" including murders, drive-by shootings, kidnappings and physical assaults, according to the federal prosecutor.
"Our efforts to root out transnational crimes, gangs and cartels doesn't just stop in the United States and extends to other places in south America," Mr. Blanche said.
