Danny argues that Western governments repeatedly ignored opportunities to avoid or end the Ukraine war. He claims France and Germany supported the Minsk process only to freeze the conflict while secretly building up Ukraine’s military for a future fight. He says Russia offered another chance to avoid war in 2021 by proposing a treaty in which Ukraine would not join NATO—something NATO leaders privately admitted would have prevented war—but the West rejected it.
After the invasion began in 2022, he argues a near-settlement was reached in Istanbul, but Western leaders blocked it because they wanted Russia to lose, not simply to restore security. He says further chances for negotiations in 2023 and 2024 were also rejected, even as Ukraine’s counteroffensive failed and Russia strengthened its position.
The speaker contends that sanctions, military aid, and pressure campaigns have all failed and only made Russia stronger. Instead of reassessing, he says Western leaders—especially NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte—are doubling down on a strategy that is irrational, immoral, and increasingly dangerous. He argues that Rutte’s warnings of a wider European war describe not Russia’s intentions but the consequences of NATO’s own escalation.
He warns that continuing this path could expand conflict into NATO countries and even lead to a world war, since Western militaries are unprepared for large-scale conventional conflict while Russia is increasingly ready. The speaker believes only a dramatic shift—such as a U.S. withdrawal of support under Trump—could halt this trajectory and force negotiations. Otherwise, he says, Western leaders are “eagerly” steering toward a catastrophic war that could have been avoided many times.
