1:55Now PlayingBeauty products marketed to teens are getting more aggressive, and most parents have no idea what’s actually in them.
The trend right now is products that “work” by irritating the tissue. Tingling, plumping, warming, cooling. It feels effective, so it sells. But repeated inflammation on delicate lip and gum tissue adds up in ways teens will feel later, not now.
A few things worth knowing as a parent:
✔️ Lip tissue is thinner than facial skin It absorbs ingredients faster and reacts more intensely, which is why irritants show up here first.
✔️ Chronic low-grade inflammation ages tissue It also increases sensitivity, discoloration, and fine lines over time. The very things these products claim to fix.
✔️ Broken capillaries do not fully heal Once damaged, they can leave lasting redness or discoloration around the mouth.
✔️ Teen gums are still developing Harsh whiteners and irritants can affect the gumline during years when the tissue is most vulnerable.
Awareness is the win here. Have the conversation early.
