Thousands of Americans have been stranded abroad due to the effect of COVID-19 on airlines and travel. On April 1, 2020, the U.S. State Department’s Repatriation Task Force signaled for the first time that the clock is ticking for U.S citizens to be able to seek help from the government to return home, after countries around the world have implemented travel restrictions, or border closures, with little notice.

“It is a super stressful situation,” says Sandra McLemore, a travel industry expert and the host of Travel Market Report’s Digital Channel.

She says that because internationally, flights are severely reduced and several airlines have cut out some routes entirely, anyone who is currently traveling out of the country and has the opportunity to come home, shouldn’t wait to do so.

“The only people that should be staying are the people that don’t have an option to leave, but absolutely everybody else should be leaving right away,” she says in the video above.
