This is disturbing, but not surprising. Farron Cousins explains why Putin's style of leadership actually fits perfectly with what today's Republican Party has become.

A startling new poll from U gov released this week has revealed that Republicans actually view Vladimir Putin in a more positive light than they view Democrats. Let me say that again. Republican voters here in the United States, according to the latest polls, like Vladimir Putin, more than they like president Biden, vice president Harris, speaker Pelosi. And of course the democratic party as a whole fun little chart here, available in the Washington post. Now here's the thing. This isn't shocking. And to be fair, this poll was taken in January, you know, long before Putin decided to invade Ukraine and start bombing innocent civilians. However, it's not because authoritarianism is exactly what Republicans have always craved. And let's be real here, right? Putin's a tough guy, right? He's got the stern face. He's got that hard look, no nonsense, tough guy. You know, shirtless pictures of him riding on horseback.
That's the image of macho man that these Republicans love so much. That's why they actually cling to the old imagery of Ronald Reagan, right back from his movie days, the cowboy hat, the rugged looks, that's what they want. And they also don't wanna have to think. They like to be told what to do. They like to be told, this is what you can and cannot have. This is what you can and cannot say, this is what you can and cannot do. And of course much like Donald Trump. They also like the fact that he doesn't tolerate any dissent. You know, you want to go disappear, tell Putin he's wrong about something. You wanna have an accident from a fourth story. Balcony, write a negative story about him. Even if you're hiding out in another country, they find you we've seen that because that is what Putin does to people who criticize him. It's terrifying. And Republicans love it. Donald Trump has said in the past, he specifically loves the way that Vladimir Putin handles the press.
This is what they want. They're not praising Putin, giving him higher approval just because they hate Democrats. It's because they crave that kind of subjugation. They're so desperate for a leader. They don't care. Who's boot. They are under as long as it's a good sturdy, strong boot. That's all they want. It's nice. It's comforting. Ooh, it's a little warm. That's what Republicans are. That is what this party has become so desperate for leaders. So desperate for anything that looks like a strong person, you know, evil or not that they clean to it. And that is what we are seeing right now with Republicans in Putin, by the way, not just in this poll, but with the response that they have had to the invasion of Ukraine. And yes, it is an invasion of Ukraine. It is a sovereign country that Russia is actively a attacking and think are going to get much worse. Now I would love to see you gov reconduct this poll in a month, right? Cuz again, like I said, this was done in January. This was done before the invasion, maybe Republicans attitudes have shifted. Maybe they've gotten better or maybe they've gotten worse either way. I definitely wanna see a follow up to this poll. So hopefully you gov will conduct it so we can see how far gone the Republican party really is.
