as posted by the channelDuring the German attack on the USSR in WW2 female Soviet POWs were often treated with extreme brutality. Many were executed upon capture, as the German military doctrine viewed Soviet partisans and female combatants with particular hostility. Women in combat roles were often regarded as partisans and were thus summarily shot.
Female POWs frequently faced sexual violence and abuse. Those who were not immediately executed were often sent to labor camps where they faced severe conditions. Forced to work under brutal conditions, they suffered from malnutrition, disease, and exposure to harsh weather.
The Soviet Union was not a signatory to the Geneva Conventions, and Germany did not extend the conventions' protections to Soviet POWs. This lack of legal protection exacerbated the harsh treatment and neglect they faced. Despite these dire conditions, some female POWs managed to survive through resilience and solidarity, supporting each other in the camps and using their skills to stay alive.
