Israel’s air defense systems, including Iron Dome and other interceptors, were activated as multiple projectiles were detected heading toward populated areas.
Israeli officials say some of the missiles carried cluster-munition warheads, which explode mid-air and scatter multiple bomblets over a wide area. These weapons are particularly dangerous because the submunitions can spread across neighborhoods and sometimes remain unexploded after impact.
Since the war began, more than 200 missiles and numerous drones have been launched toward Israel, with several waves targeting central and northern regions. While many projectiles have been intercepted, some have penetrated defenses and caused casualties and damage in urban areas.
