8:42Now PlayingUS Iran War: Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Guo Jiakun condemned the deadly strike on a primary school in Iran, calling attacks on civilians and non-military targets a grave breach of international humanitarian law.
"Attacks on schools and harm to children are particularly serious violations of international humanitarian law and cross the line of basic human morality. We express our deepest condolences to the students who perished at the Shajare Tayebe Primary School in Hormozgan Province," he said on Friday in Beijing.
The spokesperson announced that the Red Cross Society of China will provide the Iranian Red Crescent Society with $200,000 in aid, "specifically for offering condolences and compensation to the parents of the deceased students." The attack on a girls' primary school in Iran's Minab on February 28 killed around 170 people, including children.
Trump explicitly blamed the school attack on Iran, while War Secretary Pete Hegseth suggested investigations were ongoing. Iran blamed the US and Israel; Israel claimed it was 'not aware' of operations in the area, and the US said it was looking into it - but denied targeting civilians. US media reports put the intended target as a nearby naval base.
