Detective Brett Hankinson shot several rounds into Taylor's apartment. The acting police chief calls the officer's actions "reckless." No actions have been taken against the other officers involved. Today marks 100 days since Breonna Taylor's death.
Rayshard Brooks, 27, was shot by APD Officer Garrett Rolfe. Brooks was interviewed before his death after his release from jail. Brooks discussed the effects of incarceration on inmates. Rolfe was fired and is facing 11 charges, including felony murder. Officer Devin Brosnan was charged with aggravated assault, as well as other violations.
Colorado passed a comprehensive police accountability bill. Colorado becomes the first state to end qualified immunity. On Friday, Governor Jared Polis signed bill SB 217 into law.
The bill passed in 16 days with bipartisan support. Bill SB217 comes in the wake of nationwide demonstrations.
