23:09Now PlayingD.A. Howard announced the charges against the officers in Rayshard Brooks' death. Former Officer Garrett Rolfe faces charges of felony murder. Rolfe shot Brooks twice in the back. Howard stated, Rolfe said "I got him" after shots were fired. Officer Devin Brosnan faces an aggravated assault charge. Brosnan allegedly stood on Brooks' shoulder. Rayshard Brooks, 27, was shot by police on Friday in Atlanta.
It has been 97 days since the death of Breonna Taylor, and no charges have been filed. Taylor died during an execution of a no-knock warrant. Taylor's neighbors filed a lawsuit against the officers who were involved. Chelsey Napper, Cody Etherson & a 5-year-old child filed the suit. The plaintiffs stated officers shot 25 bullets into nearby apartments. The suit includes claims of assault, excessive force, & negligence.
A man with mental illness was imprisoned for 5 months. Kenta Settles was released after bodycam footage surfaced. Criminal charges have now been dismissed against Settles. Bodycam shows officers beating, tasing, and mocking Settles. He has filed a lawsuit against the officers involved. The suit claims the use of excessive force & a rights violation. It is unclear if the criminal charges are to be filed against the officers.
