Typically, once you're arrested you're taken to jail. You can bond out if you can afford to. Otherwise, you can wait till the next morning. Within 24 hours in Florida you have be brought before a judge that advises you of your charges.
After that, formal charges can be filed against you, usually within two weeks. Then you have an arraignment where you plead guilty or not guilty. Then the state has to give discovery, which are the witnesses and the evidence against you, to your lawyer. And then the lawyer takes depositions. Then you can have a trial or you can work out a plea deal. If you have a trial, if you're not found not guilty you're released; if you're found guilty you go to sentencing. After you're sentenced you have the opportunity for an appeal.
That in a nutshell is what happens. However, all those steps are complicated and you need a lawyer to walk you through each step of the process.
