Stanikzai warned that they were “being unjust to 20 million people,” emphasizing that even during the time of the Prophet Muhammad, “the doors of knowledge were open for both men and women.” His rare public dissent sent shockwaves through the Taliban’s ranks, prompting supreme leader Hibatullah Akhundzada to issue an immediate arrest order and a travel ban. But Stanikzai had already outmaneuvered them—escaping to the UAE before he could be detained. Though he claims he left for health reasons, his sudden exile highlights a growing rebellion within the Taliban, as even some of their own leaders refuse to stay silent in the face of injustice.
