51:09Now PlayingA peaceful afternoon in Villach, Austria, turned into a nightmare on February 15th when a 23-year-old Syrian asylum seeker unleashed a brutal knife attack, killing a 14-year-old boy and injuring five others in broad daylight. Armed with a folding knife, the attacker slashed at random passersby in the city’s main square until Alaaeddin Alhalabi, a Syrian food delivery driver, became an unexpected hero. "I didn't think twice and drove at him. It threw him a few meters away," Alhalabi recalled, adding with heartbreak, "If I had been faster, the 14-year-old might not have been dead." Austrian authorities later revealed the attacker had pledged allegiance to ISIS, with police finding ISIS flags and evidence of rapid online radicalization in his home. “This was an Islamist attack with ties to ISIS,” declared Interior Minister Gerhard Karner, igniting national outrage. As Villach mourns the senseless loss, Alhalabi’s courageous act stands as a powerful reminder that even in the face of terror, humanity can still rise.
