17:29Now PlayingSpeaker Kurt Daudt, Senate Majority Leader Tom Bakk and Governor Mark Dayton were optimistic about holding a special session the third week of August, following yet-to-be-scheduled committee work for finalizing a capital improvements bill and a tax bill, which was vetoed by the Governor due to a technical error. The leaders and Governor Dayton addressed the media Friday, July 15, following nearly two hours of private conversations.
The optimism was due in large part, Governor Dayton said, because he removed his requests for additional spending items in return for the inclusion of several of his bonding requests, including the U of M Health Sciences Education Facility, MnSCU repairs, and a Fort Snelling visitor’s center. However, the leaders and Governor Dayton did not reach an agreement on funding for the Southwest Light Rail line.
Speaker Daudt said the goal of a holding special session the third week of August would allow time for the State Office Building to be repaired and House of Representatives’ broadcast facilities to be verified. The building was damaged when a water supply line broke, flooding many offices and facilities.
