27:19Now PlayingGovernor Mark Dayton and legislative leaders met once again on Wednesday, June 15, to continue negotiations for a special session. In the final moments of the 2016 legislative session, a nearly $1 billion dollar bonding bill failed to pass, and last week, Governor Dayton vetoed the bipartisan tax cut package due to an expensive wording error. Both measures are considered top priorities for Governor Dayton and legislative leaders should Dayton call lawmakers back into session.
The most contentious area of disagreement continues to surround Southwest Light Rail Transit, which contributed to the derailment of the bonding bill minutes before deadline last session. House Speaker Kurt Daudt raised concerns over a lack of legislative oversight and too many unanswered questions. Governor Dayton argued that a comprehensive transportation plan, including light rail transit projects, is necessary to keep pace with economic development.
Governor Dayton and legislative leaders are scheduled to meet again Tuesday, June 21.
