0:52Now PlayingGovernor Mark Dayton released his bonding plan Wednesday, January 4, that totals $1.5 billion dollars and would, according to administration officials, leverage about $600 million dollars in additional funding and create nearly 23,000 jobs.
Among the many initiatives, the plan funds public infrastructure upgrades; higher education building improvements; agricultural research, local road and bridge projects and water and natural resources protection efforts.
According to Dayton, 35 percent of the projects are slated for Greater Minnesota; 30 percent for the Metro area and 35 percent for projects statewide.
In a released statement, Senate Minority Leader Tom Bakk said, "I support the Governor's $1.5 billion Jobs Bill in size and scope, which is similar to the 2016 Senate Jobs Bill...I urge passage of this Jobs Bill early in session to ensure that we do not lose another construction season by waiting until May to get this bill passed."
In comments made to the State Capitol press corps, Senate Capital Investment Chair David Senjem, R-Rochester, said the Governor's plan would face Republican opposition. He indicated that the scope of the proposal is greater than previous bonding bills that won legislative approval.
