12:35Now PlayingRepublican leaders announced Senate and House joint budget targets at a press conference Friday, April 28, that they say highlight tax relief; roads and bridges; and responsible spending.
The new targets aim at providing $1.15 billion dollars in tax relief and an additional $372 million for transportation. In the large areas of state spending, the new targets provide an additional $1.1 billion dollars for education as compared to the last two-year budget. That amount reflects about $300 million dollars above the forecasted growth in education spending. As for human services, the target is $2 billion dollars in additional spending, but falls roughly $500 million dollars bellow forecasted demand.
Conference committees will work in earnest to reach final budget agreements, so the Republican leaders can begin final negotiations with Governor Mark Dayton. The legislative session is scheduled to end by May 24.
