47:26Now PlayingPhysicians providing abortion services would be required to offer their patients an opportunity to view an ultrasound image of the fetus, under SF 1168, a bill reviewed by the Senate Health and Human Services Committee Thursday, February 21. Ultrasound imaging is not required under the proposal, nor is the patient required to view it.
Bill sponsor Michelle Benson, R-Ham Lake, said, "It is good that when you have more information, you realize that your life has changed, and you can make the best choices when you have the information about what is happening in your life. That's why this bill is here," she said.
In speaking in opposition to the proposal, Senator Melisa Franzen, DFL-Edina, expressed her concern about regulating doctors. "...they are following their expertise, their ethical standards, and then we are here from the Capitol trying to tell them to do something that we have no idea what it's like."
The bill was laid over for possible inclusion in the omnibus health and human services bill.
