44:27Now PlayingOn The Urban Debate with Tanvi Shukla, see the conversation on the UGC decision to hold final year university exams amid the COVID-19 pandemic. There has been a tussle between the governments of six states who have openly opposed the UGC's decision to not cancel the exams of the students.
"If UGC wanted to be the apex body to set guidelines, they should've acted sooner. After state govts took the initiative to cancel exams, the UGC realised opposition states have stolen the march on them and made conducting exams compulsory," says Ruchi Gupta, National Students Union of India
There has been a massive outrage on the UGC notification as students, parents, and teachers express their concern about the safety of students.
"It is inexplicable how all consultative processes have been done away with and the future of the students is being played with," says, Sourya Majumder, College Student
There have been several requests, petitions, and letters written to the HRD Ministry and the UGC to cancel the exams and promote students.
Will it take stock of these demands?
