3:17Now PlayingWholesale vendors and traders urged the State Government to open wholesale markets in Tamil Nadu such as Koyembedu market complex. Vendors stated that wholesale markets have been kept shut for nearly 111 days very badly affected business.
Makeshift market areas such as Thirumalisai are not enough equipped to store or handle vegetables and fruits causing more loss. However, State is yet to decide on the matter as Health Experts warned that wholesale markets could turn into a breeding area for COVID-19 infection and unfortunately Koyambedu market did turn their prediction correct, finally prompting to shut them down. Though Deputy Chief Minister met with the vendors, decision on opening wholesale markets is not in the current agenda of the State as per sources.
